Environmental Policy
As a commercial entity our basic goal is to remain profitable and to expand our business BUT at the same time our aim at Cookers is to minimise the impact that we as a company have on the environment. Some of the initiatives undertaken include the following : - In the first instance our bulk delivery system eliminates packaging waste such as 20 litre tins, plastic cubes and empty bag in box containers. These containers are single use and predominantly end up in landfill;
- Cookers also provide separate containers for the spent oil which we then collect, de-water and refine;
- This refined used oil is then on-sold to biodiesel manufacturers. Cookers then buys back biodiesel from these manufacturers and then run our truck fleet on this alternative fuel;
- At all of our branches we harvest rainwater from our factory roofs and use it for truck and tank washing;
- Our Victorian branch also uses A Class recycled water to top up its rainwater tank;
- The Victorian Head Office currently has applications lodged to mount a 20 kw wind turbine on its factory roof which will supply in excess of 50% of our power needs;
- By the end of 2010 all Cookers branches will be producing alternative energy by way of solar installations;
- Cookers is involved with a Steering Committee at Victoria University aimed at assisting business to minimise their environmental footprint.
It is widely accepted that we face many environmental issues. Most people and companies simply talk about it. At Cookers we actually do something about it!
